John Lennon's Record Plant Piano

Kept in a storage room at the famous Record Plant Recording Studios in Manhattan, this upright grand piano made by the New England Piano Company was frequently rolled into action during recording sessions there. For the artists that recorded in the studios, it was hard to resist the old piano's charm. John Lennon fell in love with the piano for its nostalgic sound and would use it to compose and record new songs. Lennon became so attached to this upright that he would have it moved to every studio he worked at in the complex. Lennon played the piano on the last day of his life. For the folks at the Record Plant Studios, the piano was affectionately coined "The John Lennon Piano".

The piano was played by many artist during sessions at the Record Plant which included Bob Dylan, Don Mc Lean, Judy Collins and Peter Townsend. For a more detailed history of this historic instrument, see the testimonial document as written by record producer and recording engineer Jack Douglas.
